Farizon research reveals strong electric van interest among UK tradespeople

New research commissioned by Farizon Auto has revealed strong interest in electric vans among UK tradespeople, with 71% of respondents saying they would consider an electric van as their next work vehicle.  The findings highlight a gap between consumer interest and current market adoption.  According to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, battery-electric vehicles accounted for 13.9% of new light commercial vehicle registrations under 3.5 tonnes in the UK in July 2026.

Interest was particularly strong among younger tradespeople, with 85% of respondents aged 18 to 24 saying they would consider switching to an electric van, compared with 33% of those aged 65 and over.

Calum James, Country General Manager at Farizon Auto UK, said:”This survey is really encouraging. Interest in electric vans among tradespeople is strong, even more so than among the wider public.  With electric van sales across the industry not matching the levels of interest, it suggests a huge, untapped opportunity is there for the taking.”

The research also identified regional differences in attitudes towards electrification.  Tradespeople in Wales recorded the highest level of interest, followed by London.

Farizon noted that these differences broadly reflected the availability of public charging infrastructure, underlining the importance of confidence in the wider electric vehicle ecosystem.

Interest also varied by profession, with 50% of electricians, builders and gardeners surveyed saying they would “definitely consider” switching to an electric van.
