Mobility when it mattered most: Supporting wildfire relief in South Africa

Early this year, severe wildfires swept through Mossel Bay and surrounding areas in South Africa’s Western Cape, destroying homes, damaging critical infrastructure, and burning more than 1,900 hectares of natural fynbos vegetation.  As communities faced urgent displacement and logistical challenges, rapid and reliable mobility became essential to effective disaster response.

Through a partnership with Skitterblink and CERT-SA, Jameel Motors’ Changan stepped in to support on-the-ground relief operations by providing Changan Hunter pick-up trucks.  These vehicles played a critical role in enabling the safe and efficient transport of emergency personnel, humanitarian supplies, and donated goods across affected areas, fire stations, vulnerable households, and care homes for the elderly.

The Hunter bakkies provided the durability, load capacity, and off-road capability needed in challenging terrain, directly strengthening operational reach at a time when every minute counted.  In total, 865 liters of potable water were distributed, along with cleaning materials, restoration tools, and essential aid, all carefully tracked and verified to ensure full accountability.
